Wooden flooring and furniture?
I am still confused. Whether should I select floor first or furniture? Also tell me that which color of floor is contemporary and lao tell me of which quality?
[Charron 2011-11-12 00:48:43]:
I am amazed to hear that you are trying to match floor to furniture. It should be other way round. You should find furniture to match the floor. Floor is long term. You may have same floor for several decades. But you will change furniture in every 5-6 years. Bamboo flooring is a great new concept. I think black furniture works for wood color floor. Optionally you can try engineered wood flooring, laminate flooring or vinyl plank flooring.

major wood flooring problems.
People go through lot of problems while installing wood flooring. Some of the major problems are;
1. One of the major cause is moisture. Most of the installer do not keep this in consideration and they find it difficult to install wood flooring.
2. Another major cause is unprepared subfloor. Before installing floors to your home, one should make sure thatn the floor is clean, flat and dry. Loose flooring, squeaky joints, and uneven surface are the outputs of uprepared florring.
These all were some of my personal experience when I first tried to install an engineered hardwood flooring. So, I would like to recommend these tips to be followed wisely.

Do Not Buy From Build Direct; Sold me defective flooring and will not support
Subject :Do Not Buy From Build Direct; Sold me defective flooring and will not support
Purchased around 2000 sq feet of build direct Vanier Cosmopolitan Santos Mahogany engineered hardwood flooring. About 1 week after installing the upstairs and downstairs of the house started to see cracks and even a plank delaminating where the top hardwood layer actually comes up from the underlying plywood layers. Stopped further installation of the stairs, and waited, and waited and waited for Build Direct to send an inspector. Weeks pass and finally the inspector shows up from Build Direct who does a very quick 35 min examination. He did not even look at the entire downstairs flooring, he did not even look at cracking and delaminating wood that had not even been installed. His report stated no conclusions or causes for the problems, but Build Direct comes up with their own opinion stating that it was installation issues blaming the installer. All during this time waiting for the inspector, the flooring continues to crack and delaminate with many planks of flooring literally coming up. It is now totally unacceptable. I hired my own independent certified hardwood flooring inspector certified as expert witness in my state courts) who stated in his report that the delamination and cracks were manufacturing issues. Thus the only opinion from any inspector (since build directs inspector did not write any opinion of cause IS NOT a CERTIFIED WOOD FLOORING INSPECTOR) is that the cracking and delaminating is due to manufacturing issues. Build Direct continues to deny responsibility for the flooring problems, and has offered to sell me OTHER wood more appropriate for my environmen at a discount. Build Direct shipped directly to my location, so they know where I lived. If they knew that my location had an environment inappropriate for the problem that I purchased, they should not have sold it to me in the first place. Bottom line is that a certified independent hardwood flooring inspector has determined that the problems are due to the manufacturer, and yet they refuse to accept responsiblility. Build Direct is located in Canada making it very difficult to sue them. Thus my only current alternative is to dispute the credit card charge. Even if I win this dispute however, I would still be left with the cost of ripping up the current terrible flooring, repreparing the subfloor, purchasing new flooring , and paying for installation. The costs for all of this would double the original 20K budget of this job. Dont repeat my nightmare. Build Direct sold me a defective product, and does not support their product now that it has failed. |

floors help
Maybe I posted my last message in the wrong part of the forum because it looks like no one saw it! I'm going to try to post it here so that I can get some help. I have carpet in part of my garage right now. I know how weird that is but the previous owners were strange like that. Certain aspects of our house make my wife and I seriously scratch our heads, but anyway. My wife wants to switch the non-car area of our garage to hardwood. I saw a few other people on these forum threads ask about this engineered wood flooring place but they didn't seem to get any thorough replies or answers. Unless, they got the answers send to them through personal messages. If we do try them out and go with hardwood than are there any specific floor coatings we need to check out? My wife and I both appreciate the help! By the way, off-topic but did anyone catch the OSU vs Michigan game this weekend? |

Wooden Flooring
The wooden flooring is long-lasting and also has good texture. But I think tiles are better. With the wooden flooring, I heard that there is shrinking problem. I heard that wood shrinks in winter and in summer it expands. Am I right? |

Flooring help!
I think you should go for laminate flooring in your kitchen. Hardwood flooring is little bit outdated. Laminate flooring is reasonable and easily replacable in future.
[ccclove499 2011-07-29 10:39:56]:
Recently, a friend of mine got her floors redone and she told me about FloorsToYourHome.com. I have been considering adding new floor to my kitchen and having the tile removed. After she got her floors done, I started to feel like mine were outdated! Now I just need to decide on hardwood or laminate.

so, what is the fundamental difference between engineered hardwood flooring and laminate flooring? By the way, I have heard about WPC flooring (wood-plastic composite). So, is WPC flooring popular in US? Which category should it belong to? Laminate flooring or resilient flooring or other category? |

Spaces Between my floor boards!
Spaces between boards are not the results of the wood floor fault. The wood boards will shrink as humidity goes down. So you will notice gaps. But those gaps will go away in the summer. Gaps will reappear in the winter. This is a continuous process. Your builder must install this seasonal swelling and shrinking.
You can use engineered flooring as a solution. Engineered woods shrinks less than solid wood flooring. |
